How to install Metasploit on Ubuntu 11.04

In this how to I will be showing you how to install Metasploit  under Ubuntu 11.04.  So what exactly is Metasploit?

A collaboration between the open source community and Rapid7, Metasploit software helps security and IT professionals identify security issues, verify vulnerability mitigations, and manage expert-driven security assessments, providing true security risk intelligence. Capabilities include smart exploitation, password auditing, web application scanning, and social engineering. Teams can collaborate in Metasploit and present their findings in consolidated reports.

Metasploit is another one of those great tools to have in your arsenal.  So lets get started on installing.

First open up your terminal login as root and download the following file:

su

wget http://downloads.metasploit.com/data/releases/metasploit-latest-linux-installer.run

Next we must make the file executable:

chmod +x metasploit-latest-linux-installer.run

Now run the file:

./metasploit-latest-linux-installer.run

Now if everything installed correctly you will have Metasploit installed.  Easy… Next I would update it by doing this:

msfupdate

msfconsole

You now have Metasploit installed and updated.

**Update**
